By Jeff Adolph Property Tax Residents in New York who are paying more than $6,000 a year on property taxes, believe that this expense may be driving their friends and family out of the region, and making property unaffordable. As Joan Pritchard, a speech therapist and local resident told reporter, James M. Odato, of the Times Union, " We have seen a lot of our family have to move. I hope in years to come that my own children can afford to stay." 'This order would require cost evaluation on any proposed regulation or law to make sure that it won't add a financial burden to local governments.' Currently real estate taxes in New York are 78 percent higher than the national average and this is making owing a home here out-of-reach for many people. Source: Odato, James M.
