Residential Real Estate
Investment experts believe that more investors are likely to buy distressed real estate in the near future, as a way to recoup retirement fund losses and to rebuild their capital.
According to Mark Shapiro, head of global restructuring and finance at Barclays Capital , investors are looking for a favorable return.
"A lot of investors I'm hearing about are now thinking of shifting their focus to real estate, because that's where they see the opportunities. That's probably where you're going to see capital shifting, " said Shapiro
When asked about where he expected these opportunities to arise, Shapiro said, "The whole gamut."
Overall, capital markets are beginning to open again and while investors are not willing to take the same risks as they may have before the financial crisis, they are looking to invest in residential real estate as commercial is still in doubt.

i don't think this will begin to bear fruit for quite some time. we have not yet seen the high point of foreclosed properties reaching the market. that will come some time in mid-2010, in all likelihood. at that point, unless the first-time homebuyer tax credit gets extended, it will be open season on those homes that are in need of repair, and investors who have the ability to renovate and refurbish will not only flock to them, but they will also flourish (if the article is to be believed).
i had to hedge my guess, after all.
