Real Estate Redevelopment
The Community Development headed by Pierce and Blanchard will see one in every nine homes purchased by the federal government, under the Louisiana, Road Home Program restored and then re-sold as affordable housing. We're exercising our right to self-determination," Peirce said. The Pontchartrain Park concept is considered as a testing ground for the city to see if it is viable to return thousands of flooded residents into affordable housing, especially when there may not be enough families to occupy them. NORA is currently accessing whether or not to transfer 114 abandoned and vacant homes to Peirce and Blanchard's Pontchartrain Park Community Development Corp. The biggest concern for many real estate experts in the regionis that the market may not be able to cope with these additional homes, and the market may become flooded, which will then lead to depressed home values. NORA's solution however, is to release only a couple of hundred homes at a time, in order to reduce the occurrence of market flooding. For more info on NORA and any of the programs mentioned please visit www.norawork.org or call NORA on 504.658.4400 Actor Wendell Pierce, star of HBO's police drama "The Wire", and Terence Blanchard, a Grammy-winning musician who grew up in Pontchartrain Park, New Orleans are waiting for the New Orleans Redevelopment Authority (NORA) to approve their Pontchartrain Park Community Development.
However, NORA anticipates that while some of the 8,800 homes bought out by the Road Home Program will be restored by developers such as Peirce and Blanchard, or possible investors bargain hunting. In addition to this, NORA will release other properties under the Lot Next Door Program, which enables neighboring properties to vacant homes to purchase the lot, so that they can then extend their boundaries in order to add a pool or shed.
